I have been invited by Creative Academy a few times to give some lectures on Swarovski and most recently on my new professional carreer as a Consultant. The contact with the students is always very interesting, it is great to share with them my experience and why not give them advises and information on the professional world.

I met Anna Maccieri a few years ago at Creative Academy, a first sight sympathy , some share of emails and a creative profile I always kept updated in my “trend scouting”. Anna has decided to make the big step: launch her own jewelry line in 2015, here is what she has told me on her interesting carreer and her dreams that slowly but steadily are becoming true. Well done Anna!

Define your style in five words

Femininity, modernity and elegance are the words I would use to describe my style. If I could add some others then I would say “Emotional” “Interiorized”. I believe that any jewelry piece should have a soul, a beating heart to tell a story and let you travel with your imagination. This is it for me: a dream!

How did you become designer?

I think that this creative dimension has always been part of me. Since I was a child I always needed to express myself through painting, writing and music. I always looked for art in any direction I would take. I grew up in my mum’s store “Pietra di luna”, an atelier selling stones and jewelry in Reggio Emilia. It was my after school, it was my weekends playing with minerals and gems even if I didn’t yet know my path and my aspiration.

I was so fascinated to look at those beautiful stones, nature work of art, with which my mother and I could create unique and beautiful jewellery. Our creative path would always start with colors and stones in our hands. I then started travelling for passion and University allowed me to live in other cities and get to know different cultures.

In 2005 I attended a course of technical drawing at Arti Orafe in Florence and then in 2006 a Master in Design at Creative Academy (Richemont Group). From there, my initial professional steps were Cartier, Jager le Coultre, Bulgari , the perfect brands to make first experiences. It was in a small town in Switzerland, Le Sentier, that my life chanced. I had the chance to work with people that helped me to grow in many ways. I have wonderful memories of some of them, the design team, the fine jewelry people… In that small village, so far away from home I learnt a lot and when you learn you also change… and you get better…

Your source of inspiration?

I observe nature: its perfection moves me. I think this is my main inspiration, always, constantly. In my creations, I use colors that move me. I look for the purest and simplest shapes. I wish to tell a story through my jewelry, I wish it to be real and mysterious.

In the last years I gave birth to two lovely children: Riccardo and Anita. I can’t deny that becoming a mother has changed me and enriched me. During the two pregnancies I went though the most miraculous creative moment and it is then that I decided to launch my own jewelry line. The launch to the pubblic will be in 2015 ….I will keep you posted…

Do you design by hand or with mock ups? How do you visualize your idea?

I design nearly everything by hand. But first of all I research, I observe things with a child eyes, with curiosity and emotion. People, music, cities, the contact with materials…. all add up to my creativity. On my floor I collect magazine clippings, photos, I touch a leaf to feel the texture, I browse through internet , I travel as much as I can, it’s a must.

Ideas are like thunderstorms, they arrive with a sudden strenght and never leave me until I have concretized them into designs, gouaches , renderings…

Which city interprets best your characteristics?

I can’t say precisely which city… I know it has to be a city by the sea, the sea is a constant flow and I feel like it…

Which advises would you give to a young designer?

First of all: good luck! It is a very competitive world and you need to work hard to find your right place, the one where you feel at ease, the one where you can be 100% honest, but it has to make sense to… To a young designer I would first of all say to be free from any mental structure even if they work in large companies. I would advise to study and have a good base to get along. For me the most important thing is to keep a curious and passionate approach to this work, to be a designer this is a must!
